A man who attempted to rape a woman in Barking has been jailed.
Lutzim Gaxha, 27 (17.06.93) of no fixed abode was sentenced to five years and seven months’ imprisonment at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Monday, 7 December after pleading guilty to a charge of attempted rape. Gaxha was also subject to a deportation order upon release. On Thursday, 30 April at around 23:40hrs in Barking Town Centre, a 27-year-old female was walking to the shops when she noticed that a man was following her. She crossed the road and spoke to a security guard at Barking train station and notified him that he was following her and offering her money to go home with him. The security guard walked with the victim towards the high street to check if the man was still following her and to make sure she was okay. There was no sight of the man in question. Believing that the man had stopped following her, the female victim began to walk home. A short while into her walk, the man reappeared and so she discretely rang the police, directing them on her location. Gaxha proceeded to drag the victim into a bush where he then attempted to rape her. Officers arrived at the scene where the victim and Gaxha emerged from the bushes; Gaxha ran off. Shortly after he fled the scene, he was detained and arrested for suspicion of sexual assault by officers after footage from CCTV showed him running on a nearby road. This CCTV footage led to his positive ID as he was wearing the same clothes at the time of the incident. If you have been accused of rape then contact or rape solicitors today Detective Constable Chris Maxim, from the Met’s East Area serious sexual offences unit, said: “This is a great outcome, not only for the victim of this harrowing incident but also for the wider community as a whole. We can all feel reassured that a dangerous predatory offender, who took advantage of a vulnerable individual walking home alone, is now safely where he belongs”.
